The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Scientists in Netherlands Ranking is primarily based on bibliometric data obtained from leading open-access repositories, notably OpenAlex and CrossRef. These sources, widely recognized within the research community, provide comprehensive indexing of scholarly publications and their citations. In addition to these, multiple other reputable data sources were integrated to ensure the breadth and accuracy of citation information. The bibliometric data used to calculate citation-based metrics, including the H-index, were collected on January 12, 2026. A scientist’s position in the ranking is determined by their H-index, a robust metric reflecting both the productivity and citation impact of the researcher’s published work.
Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
This ranking examined a total of 279,971 scientist profiles identified through a variety of bibliometric databases covering all major scientific disciplines. The qualifying H-index thresholds were tailored to each research area to account for disparities in publication and citation patterns across fields; these thresholds typically ranged between 30 and 40. In addition to bibliometric criteria, consideration was given to noteworthy awards and achievements relevant to each scientist’s domain of expertise. Ultimately, only the top 1,000 scientists with the highest H-index values were included in the final listing, ensuring a focused representation of leading researchers.
Verification and Validation Practices
The Research.com team acknowledges that bibliometric data alone cannot fully encapsulate the scholarly value or impact of researchers. Accordingly, each scientist’s profile underwent thorough manual verification and was cross-correlated against publications archived in a diverse array of trustworthy sources. Although the total number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence ranking position, it serves as a valuable secondary indicator of the scientist’s contribution to their field.
