University of Bolton is a public research university in Bolton, Greater Manchester, England. It was established in 1982 as the Bolton Institute of Higher Education, and its roots date back to 1824 with the founding of the Bolton Mechanics Institute. The university underwent a few structural and name changes before having its present name and university status in 2004.
