About the Data Sources and Methodology
The 4th edition of the Research.com Best Economics and Finance Universities in Argentina Ranking is based on an extensive analysis of multiple trusted data sources. The primary sources leveraged for this ranking are OpenAlex and CrossRef, both recognized globally for their comprehensive bibliometric coverage, as well as several supplementary datasets. The foundation of the rankings is based on bibliometric data collected as of November 27, 2024. The citation-based metrics were meticulously devised using this data, ensuring the most current and accurate reflection of individual and institutional research output.
A university’s position in the ranking is calculated using the aggregate of D-indexes (Discipline H-index) for all affiliated scholars whose primary area of publication is Economics and Finance. The D-index strictly encompasses publications and citations relevant to the specific discipline under consideration, omitting output from other scientific fields to uphold the integrity and focus of the evaluation.
Scope of Research and Analytical Criteria
A comprehensive selection process underpins the Research.com ranking, ensuring a robust and representative sample. For this edition, 279,971 scientist profiles identified from a range of bibliometric sources were evaluated. From these, 12,210 scientists active in Economics and Finance were individually analyzed to ensure only the leading contributors in this domain were considered.
Key qualifying criteria for inclusion were set with rigor:
- A D-index threshold of 30 was established for each scientist under review.
- The majority of a scholar’s most impactful publications must be in Economics and Finance.
- Assessments of scientists’ awards and achievements in the field were also conducted.
- The D-index threshold for identifying top researchers dynamically increases by increments of 10, in accordance with the number of scholars in each discipline, while guaranteeing that at least the top 1% of global leaders are included.
- A proximity criterion ensures that a scientist’s general H-index does not exceed their D-index by more than 30%, preserving discipline-specific relevance.
These measures guarantee that only the most impactful and dedicated researchers in Economics and Finance are featured, while maintaining fairness across the spectrum of disciplines and scholar pools.
Verification Practices and Data Integrity
The team responsible for this ranking is fully aware that bibliometric data, while invaluable, is never an absolute measure of scholarly achievement. As a result, every scientist profile was subject to manual verification and cross-validation against records from a diverse range of reputable sources. This additional scrutiny ensures accuracy in the attribution of works and in the determination of scholarly impact.
While the number of papers published in top-tier journals and proceedings is not a direct factor in determining a researcher’s rank on Research.com, it is acknowledged as a meaningful secondary indicator of scientific contribution within a field. The position in the ranking is objectively established using each scientist’s H-index, as curated from OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most credible and widely accessed bibliometric databases available today.
