A university’s position in the ranking is determined by aggregating the D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all ranking scholars affiliated with the institution, provided their primary publication area is in Economics and Finance. The D-index is specifically calculated using publications and citation data exclusive to the discipline under examination, ensuring subject-specific rigor in assessing each scholar’s impact.
Scope of Research
The scope of analysis for this ranking is significant: 279,971 scientist profiles identified from various bibliometric databases were initially examined, out of which 12,210 scientists specializing in Economics and Finance were analyzed in detail. To ensure meaningful inclusion, a qualifying D-index threshold of 30 was set for each scientist, and a majority of their high-impact publications had to be centered in Economics and Finance.
Further refinement considered both quantifiable and qualitative factors. Individual awards and significant achievements in Economics and Finance also contributed to the overall assessment. The D-index threshold for considering top researchers is incremented by 10, contingent on the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline, while ensuring that the top 1% of leading scholars for the field are incorporated. Moreover, only scientists with a proximity of 30% or less between their general H-index and subject-specific D-index were considered, underlining the focus on discipline-centric impact.
Verification Practices and Data Integrity
We recognize the limitations of raw bibliometric data; thus, data integrity was fortified through comprehensive manual verification of all scientist profiles. These were cross-validated against a wide array of reputable sources to ensure authenticity. Although the count of publications in leading journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence ranking position in Research.com, it is acknowledged as a valuable indicator of scholarly contribution in Economics and Finance.
Researchers’ positions in the ranking were determined based on their individual H-index values gleaned from OpenAlex and CrossRef, the two most prominent and respected bibliometric databases available to the global research community.
