Sources of Data and Ranking Metrics
The 11th edition of the Research.com Best Computer Science Universities in Turkey Ranking is based on comprehensive bibliometric data primarily sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, complemented by a range of additional high-quality data sources. The collection of bibliometric data used to calculate citation-based metrics for the ranking was finalized on 2024-11-27. The primary metric determining an institution’s position is the cumulative D-index (Discipline H-index) of all affiliated researchers whose main publication area is Computer Science. The D-index is calculated exclusively from publications and citation data relevant to the Computer Science discipline, ensuring precise attribution of scholarly impact within the field.
Scope of Research and Selection Criteria
For this ranking, a rigorous analysis was conducted on 279,971 scholar profiles identified from multiple bibliometric sources, with 40,471 scientists specifically evaluated within the field of Computer Science. To ensure relevance and quality, each scientist had to meet a minimum D-index threshold of 30, with the majority of their key publications in Computer Science. Additionally, individual awards and notable achievements in the field were factors taken into account.
The D-index threshold for identifying top researchers increases in increments of 10, tailored to the total number of scholars present in each discipline, while ensuring that the top 1% of leading scholars are always included in the global list. An important quality safeguard was implemented by maintaining a proximity of 30% or less between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index in Computer Science. Finally, recognition through awards and field-specific achievements further informed the inclusion and evaluation of distinguished researchers.
Verification Procedures and Data Integrity
Understanding that bibliometric data alone is insufficient for a holistic evaluation, Research.com’s team undertook an exhaustive manual verification process for all scientist profiles. Cross-referencing was performed with a broad array of reputable sources to maximize the accuracy and integrity of the data. While the sheer number of papers in prominent journals and leading conference proceedings does not directly impact a researcher’s ranking position, this information serves as a valuable secondary indicator of their contribution to Computer Science.
Institutional ranking positions are established using each researcher’s H-index, as retrieved from OpenAlex and CrossRef—the most authoritative and widely recognized bibliometric databases in the scholarly community today.
