Data Sources and Methodology
The 3rd edition of the Research.com Best Universities in Bangladesh Ranking is founded on comprehensive data collection and meticulous analysis. The primary sources for the data underpinning this ranking are OpenAlex and CrossRef, globally recognized bibliometric databases. Additionally, multiple other credible data sources were integrated to ensure robustness and breadth of perspective. Bibliometric data, which forms the basis of the citation-based metrics used in this ranking, were collected on 2024-11-27, providing a timely and current snapshot of scholarly performance.
Each institution's position in the ranking was determined based on the sum of D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all affiliated scholars who qualified for inclusion. The D-index specifically includes publications and citation data relating solely to the discipline under examination. However, all major research areas were considered, encompassing a wide spectrum of academic output when constructing the ranking. This approach allows for an institution's comprehensive research impact to be objectively measured, discipline by discipline.
Scope of Research
The ranking is based on the examination of 279,971 scientist profiles across all major scientific disciplines, identified from a variety of bibliometric data sources. In order to maintain high standards of academic excellence, only those scholars who achieved a qualifying D-index threshold of 20 or higher were considered. In addition to bibliometric indicators, individual awards and achievements in the scientists’ respective fields were also factored into the assessment, ensuring that the ranking reflects not only citation performance but also recognized contributions to research.
Verification and Validation Practices
Recognizing the limitations of raw bibliometric data as an evaluative tool, the research team undertook a rigorous process of manual verification for all scientist profiles. These profiles were cross-checked against their publication records in an extensive array of trusted sources, ensuring accuracy, reliability, and the elimination of erroneous data. While the number of papers published in leading journals and conference proceedings is not used to determine a researcher's position in the Research.com ranking, it is acknowledged as a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist’s impact within their discipline.
The ranking methodology utilizes the H-index as determined by information sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef. These databases are among the most prominent and highly regarded in the global research community, providing a strong and credible foundation for academic evaluation.
