Data Sources and Methodology
The 3rd edition of the Research.com Best Universities in United Arab Emirates Ranking is based on a meticulously constructed methodology that leverages reliable and extensive bibliometric data sources. The primary datasets used include OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other reputable data sources. The bibliometric data pivotal for devising citation-based metrics were collected on 2024-11-27.
A university’s position in this ranking is determined by the aggregated D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all ranking scholars affiliated with each institution. The D-index is calculated exclusively from publications and citation data relevant to the specific scientific discipline being examined. Importantly, scholars from all major research areas were considered, ensuring a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach.
Scope of Research
The ranking process involved the analysis of 279,971 scientist profiles, spanning a wide array of bibliometric data sources and covering all major scientific disciplines. To ensure only influential researchers were included, the qualifying D-index threshold was set at 20 for each scientist. In addition to bibliometric metrics, individual awards and achievements within the scientist’s field of study were also taken into account as supplementary factors, broadening the basis for recognition beyond citations alone.
Verification and Evaluation Practices
We recognize that quantitative metrics, while valuable, are not absolute measures of a scholar’s contributions. As such, every scientist profile was subject to manual verification and cross-referenced with publications from a wide range of trusted sources. While the number of papers published in prominent journals and reputable conference proceedings is not a direct component of an individual’s position in the Research.com ranking, it remains a valuable indicator of domain-specific research impact.
A researcher’s position in the ranking is ultimately established using their H-index, as documented in OpenAlex and CrossRef—the two leading and most reputable bibliometric databases globally. These practices collectively enhance the reliability and credibility of our results.
