Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Psychology Scientists in Kenya Ranking is underpinned by a robust foundation of data drawn primarily from OpenAlex and CrossRef, complemented by multiple other reputable bibliometric sources. These databases collectively provide comprehensive coverage of scientific publications and citations necessary for an accurate and current evaluation. The bibliometric data used to derive the citation-based metrics were meticulously collected on January 12, 2026, ensuring the currency and relevance of the information.
A scientist's position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a specialized metric that considers only publications and citations within the examined discipline of Psychology. This approach allows for a focused assessment of impact and productivity specific to the relevant research field, thereby avoiding distortions that may arise from activity in unrelated disciplines.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
The ranking methodology involved a comprehensive examination of 279,971 scientist profiles extracted from a variety of bibliometric sources encompassing all disciplines. Within this broad base, only 2 scientist profiles were identified specifically under Psychology in Kenya that met all initial criteria.
To qualify for inclusion in the Psychology ranking, several stringent conditions were applied:
- A scientist's D-index had to be at least 30, ensuring inclusion of highly impactful researchers.
- The majority of the scientist’s tier publications had to be demonstrated within the discipline of Psychology.
- Recognition of scientific awards and professional achievements within the Psychology field was also considered as a supplementary factor.
The D-index threshold is carefully calibrated as increments of 10 relative to the total estimated number of scholars in each discipline, thereby guaranteeing representation of the top 1% of leading experts. An additional criterion required that the difference between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index remain within a 30% margin, maintaining a close disciplinary focus for ranked researchers.
Verification Practices
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot comprehensively capture the output and significance of scholarly activity, Research.com employs rigorous manual verification to complement automated data aggregation. Each scientist profile included in the ranking has been cross-correlated against publications available across an extensive set of trustworthy academic and industry sources to authenticate the accuracy of records.
Although the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence the calculation of the D-index or ranking position, it serves as a valuable secondary indicator of a researcher’s contribution within their discipline.
Positions in the ranking are ultimately established using each researcher’s D-index, calculated specifically from the validated data provided by OpenAlex and CrossRef—widely recognized as leading bibliometric databases within the global research community.
