Data Sources and Ranking Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Political Science Scientists in Singapore Ranking is primarily based on comprehensive bibliometric data sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other authoritative data repositories. The citation-based metrics that underpin this ranking were meticulously collected on January 12, 2026. A scientist’s position within the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that exclusively considers papers and citation counts pertinent to the scrutinized discipline—in this case, Political Science. This ensures that the ranking reflects a researcher's impact and productivity specifically within their field of expertise.
Scope of Research Examined
The ranking methodology involved a detailed analysis of 279,971 scientist profiles retrieved from a diverse array of bibliometric sources spanning all scientific disciplines. Within this extensive pool, 5 scientists specializing in Political Science in Singapore were identified and assessed. To qualify for inclusion, a researcher’s D-index in Political Science had to be at least 20, with the majority of their tier publications situated firmly within the domain of Political Science. In addition to bibliometric metrics, scientists’ professional awards and achievements specifically relevant to Political Science were taken into account.
The threshold for the D-index is calibrated dynamically—in increments of 10—based on the estimated population of scholars within each discipline. This design ensures that the ranking consistently incorporates the top 1% of leading experts. Additionally, to maintain coherence between a scientist’s overall scholarly impact and their discipline-focused contributions, only those with a proximity difference of 30% or less between their general H-index and their D-index were considered.
Verification and Validation Practices
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone may not fully capture a scholar’s contribution, the Research.com team undertook rigorous manual verification of all scientist profiles considered for this ranking. Profiles were cross-correlated against publications indexed in a broad spectrum of trusted sources, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the dataset. Although not directly influencing the ranking position, the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings was also regarded as a valuable secondary indicator of a researcher’s influence and engagement within the Political Science community.
The final positioning in the ranking rests on each scientist’s D-index, derived from the consolidated data gathered primarily from OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most prominent and reliable bibliometric databases available to the global research community.
