Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Neuroscience Scientists in Thailand Ranking was derived primarily from comprehensive bibliometric data obtained from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple additional authoritative data sources. The bibliometric data used to formulate the citation-based metrics for this ranking were collected on January 12, 2026. A scientist’s position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refinement of the traditional H-index that exclusively includes papers and citation metrics pertinent to the specific discipline under examination—in this case, Neuroscience.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
A total of 279,971 scientist profiles were reviewed across all disciplines using a broad spectrum of bibliometric databases, of which 2,000+ scientists were specifically identified within the Neuroscience discipline. To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist’s D-index had to be at least 30, with the majority of their tier publications concentrated in Neuroscience. In addition to bibliometric indicators, a researcher’s awards and recognized achievements in the field of Neuroscience were considered to provide a holistic evaluation.
The threshold for the D-index is adjusted in increments of 10 based on the total estimated number of scholars within each discipline, ensuring that the top 1% of leading researchers are consistently represented in the list. Furthermore, to ensure discipline specificity, the proximity between a researcher’s general H-index and their D-index must not exceed 30%, reinforcing that the D-index reflects a strong focus in Neuroscience.
Verification Processes and Ranking Methodology
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot definitively capture the full breadth and quality of a researcher’s output, all scientist profiles were meticulously manually verified by cross-correlating their publication records with trusted sources within the scientific community. While the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence a researcher’s position in the ranking, it is regarded as a valuable secondary signal of research impact and contribution within the specific domain.
The final ranking positions are established exclusively based on each researcher's D-index, as calculated from citation information harvested from OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most prominent and reliable bibliometric databases widely used by the research community.
