Scope of Research and Ranking Criteria
The ranking evaluated 279,971 scientist profiles identified across multiple bibliometric sources representing all scientific disciplines. Within this extensive cohort, 38 scientists specializing in Engineering and Technology were analyzed in detail.
To qualify for inclusion in the Engineering and Technology segment of the ranking, candidates were required to meet rigorous thresholds. Firstly, a scientist’s D-index had to be at least 30 to ensure a demonstrable impact within the field. Secondly, a majority of a qualifying scientist’s tiered publications needed to be explicitly within the Engineering and Technology domain. Additionally, scientists' awards and notable achievements specifically within Engineering and Technology were factored into the consideration process, providing qualitative context alongside bibliometric measures.
The threshold for the D-index is calibrated as increments of 10 relative to the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline. This stratification ensures that the top 1% of leading scholars are systematically incorporated into the ranking. Furthermore, to maintain relevance to the focal discipline, scientists included exhibit a proximity of no more than 30% between their overall general H-index and their discipline-specific D-index.
