Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Economics and Finance Scientists in Iran, Islamic Republic Of Ranking is primarily based on bibliometric data obtained from leading and widely recognized sources: OpenAlex and CrossRef. These platforms provide comprehensive and up-to-date citation and publication metadata that are critical for rigorous evaluation. To ensure accuracy and relevance, the citation data used in devising the citation-based metrics for this ranking were collected on January 12, 2026. A key bibliometric measure employed in the ranking is the D-index (Discipline H-index), which is a refined variant of the traditional H-index that considers only publications and citations within the specific discipline under examination—Economics and Finance in this context. This metric provides a focused evaluation of a scientist’s impact and productivity strictly within their research domain.
Scope of Research and Selection Criteria
The ranking methodology interrogated an extensive dataset comprising 279,971 scientist profiles aggregated from a diverse array of bibliometric repositories spanning all academic disciplines. From these, 2,042 scientists specialized in Economics and Finance were specifically examined. To qualify for inclusion within the ranking, a scientist was required to meet a minimum D-index threshold of 30, ensuring that only scholars with substantial impact in the field were considered. Furthermore, a majority of their high-tier publications needed to be concentrated in Economics and Finance, reinforcing the disciplinary focus of the evaluation. Recognition of awards and achievements specifically in Economics and Finance also influenced the consideration process as additional validation of scholarly eminence.
The threshold for the D-index is adaptively calibrated in increments of 10 relative to the estimated population size of researchers within each discipline. This approach ensures that the top 1% of leading scholars in Economics and Finance are captured, maintaining an elite and representative cohort. Additionally, to assure disciplinary specificity, the difference between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index was maintained at 30% or less, guaranteeing that the D-index reflects their core research activity accurately.
Verification and Validation Practices
Understanding the inherent limitations of raw bibliometric data as an absolute evaluative tool, the Research.com team undertook meticulous manual verification of all scientist profiles included in the ranking. This cross-verification process involved correlating listed publications against multiple trustworthy sources across the academic publishing landscape to confirm authorship and subject relevance.
While the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence a researcher’s rank, it serves as a valuable secondary indicator of their contribution and influence within the Economics and Finance research communities.
The final ranking order is determined based on each researcher's D-index derived from data aggregated from OpenAlex and CrossRef, recognized as the most prominent and reputable bibliometric databases accessible to the scholarly community at large.
