Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Economics and Finance Scientists in Iraq Ranking is built upon a comprehensive and rigorous data collection framework. Primary data sources used to construct the ranking include OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple additional bibliometric databases to ensure breadth and accuracy of coverage. Bibliometric data utilized for devising the citation-based metrics were collected on January 12, 2026. A scientist’s position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a metric that selectively incorporates publications and citation counts relevant exclusively to the examined discipline of Economics and Finance. This approach ensures that the ranking reflects influence and productivity within the specific field rather than general research output.
Scope of the Research
The ranking process involved the examination of 279,971 scientist profiles extracted from diverse bibliometric data repositories encompassing all disciplines. Of these, 1,324 scientists specializing in Economics and Finance were analyzed in detail. To qualify for the ranking, a scientist was required to have a D-index of at least 30. Additionally, a majority of their tier publications had to be directly related to Economics and Finance. Consideration was also given to the scientist’s awards and achievements within the field to reflect recognized contributions beyond bibliometric indicators.
The threshold for the D-index varies in increments of 10 based on the estimated total number of scholars within each discipline, ensuring that roughly the top 1% of leading researchers are included in the ranking. Furthermore, to maintain discipline-specific relevance, a qualified scientist must have a proximity of 30% or less between their general H-index and their Economics and Finance D-index, reinforcing the focus on domain-specific impact.
Verification and Quality Assurance
The team behind the ranking recognizes that raw bibliometric data alone cannot serve as an absolute measure for evaluating scholarly output. Therefore, all scientist profiles included in the ranking were manually verified and cross-correlated with publications indexed in a wide range of trusted sources to confirm accuracy and consistency. Although not factored into the ranking position, the number of papers published in prominent journals and reputable conference proceedings is considered an important secondary indicator of a scientist’s contribution to the discipline.
Positions within the ranking are determined by each researcher’s D-index using data aggregated primarily from OpenAlex and CrossRef, the most distinguished and widely recognized bibliometric databases available to the research community today.
