Data Sources and Bibliometric Data Collection
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Economics and Finance Scientists in Hungary Ranking is primarily based on comprehensive bibliometric data sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other authoritative databases. These sources represent some of the most extensive and rigorously curated collections of scholarly publications and citation records accessible to the research community. The citation-based metrics utilized to construct this ranking were collected on January 12, 2026, ensuring the analysis incorporates the most recent available data at the time of compilation.
A scientist's position within the ranking is determined by their Discipline H-index, or D-index, a metric that specifically accounts for papers and citations exclusively within the examined discipline—in this case, Economics and Finance. The D-index enables a focused evaluation of a researcher’s impact within their field, minimizing noise from contributions outside the scope of the discipline.
Scope of Research and Eligibility Criteria
This ranking took into account a total of 279,971 scientist profiles identified through a diverse array of bibliometric data sources across all disciplines. Within this extensive pool, 4,000 profiles specifically associated with Economics and Finance were thoroughly analyzed. To qualify for inclusion, a scientist was required to have a minimum D-index of 30 in the discipline, and the majority of their tier publications had to fall within the Economics and Finance research area.
Additionally, awards and notable achievements within Economics and Finance were carefully considered as supplementary indicators of scholarly contribution. The threshold for the D-index is set in increments of 10, calibrated according to the estimated number of scholars in each discipline, such that the ranking reliably incorporates the top 1% of leading researchers. To ensure disciplinary focus and relevance, candidates also needed to exhibit a proximity of 30% or less between their general H-index and their D-index, indicating a strong alignment of their overall research profile with their specialized area.
Verification Practices and Methodology Transparency
Recognizing the inherent limitations of raw bibliometric data as an absolute measure of research output, the Research.com team implemented rigorous manual verification procedures. Each scientist profile was cross-checked against publications documented in a wide range of reputable and trustworthy sources to confirm accuracy and relevancy. While the ranking position is fundamentally established using the D-index derived from OpenAlex and CrossRef, complementary metrics such as the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings provide valuable secondary signals regarding a scientist's influence and contributions within the field.
