Data Sources and Ranking Criteria
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Economics and Finance Scientists in Ecuador Ranking is primarily founded on comprehensive bibliometric data sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, alongside multiple other reputable data repositories. The citation-based metrics that underpin this ranking were collected meticulously on January 12, 2026. Each scientist’s position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that exclusively considers publications and citation data within the discipline under review, ensuring a focused and discipline-specific evaluation of research impact.
Scope of Research and Qualification Parameters
This ranking draws from an extensive pool of 279,971 scientist profiles identified across a broad spectrum of bibliometric data sources spanning all disciplines. Within this comprehensive dataset, 2,000 scientists specializing specifically in Economics and Finance were examined rigorously.
To qualify for inclusion, a scientist must achieve a minimum D-index of 30, and the majority of their tier publications must be within the Economics and Finance domain. Beyond bibliometric thresholds, awards and notable achievements in these fields also contribute to the qualification process. The D-index thresholds are calibrated in increments of 10 based on the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline, ensuring the inclusion of the top 1% of leading experts. Additionally, candidates must demonstrate a proximity of 30% or less between their general H-index and their D-index, reinforcing the alignment between their overall and discipline-specific impact.
Verification Procedures and Data Integrity
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot comprehensively reflect a scholar’s research output, the Research.com team undertakes a rigorous manual verification of each scientist profile. These profiles are cross-correlated with publication records from an array of trustworthy and authoritative sources to validate accuracy and authenticity.
While the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence a researcher’s position in the ranking, it serves as a meaningful secondary indicator of scientific contribution within the discipline.
The ranking positions are ultimately established through the D-index metric, derived from the most prominent and widely recognized bibliometric databases—OpenAlex and CrossRef—ensuring robustness and transparency in the evaluation process.
