A university's position in this ranking is determined by the cumulative D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all ranking scholars whose primary research domain is in Economics and Finance and who are affiliated with the institution. The D-index is discipline-specific, encapsulating only those publications and citation counts relevant to Economics and Finance, ensuring an accurate and discipline-targeted assessment.
Scope of Research and Scholar Selection Criteria
The ranking draws from an exhaustive analysis of 279,971 scientist profiles sourced from diverse bibliometric databases. From this broad pool, 12,210 scientists specializing in Economics and Finance were specifically examined.
Selection criteria are rigorous: a minimum qualifying D-index threshold of 30 was required, and the majority of a scholar's principal publications had to fall within Economics and Finance. Additional factors such as a scientist’s awards and significant achievements in the field were also considered.
To ensure the recognition of leading experts, the D-index threshold for identifying top researchers was incrementally adjusted by 10, depending on the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline, while always ensuring that the top 1% of leading scholars were incorporated into the final list. Furthermore, to guarantee that only truly specialized researchers are reflected, there had to be a proximity of 30% or less between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index.
In addition to bibliometric measures, a scientist’s distinguished awards and field-specific achievements played a secondary yet influential role in the assessment process.
Verification Practices and Quality Assurance
Understanding that bibliometric data provide only a partial view of academic impact, the researchers behind this ranking implemented a meticulous validation process. All scientist profiles were subject to manual verification and extensive cross-correlation against publications in a large variety of reputable sources.
While the number of publications in leading journals and proceedings does not directly affect a scholar’s ranking position, it serves as a useful secondary signal of academic contribution and research activity within the discipline. The position within the ranking is determined by evaluating each researcher’s H-index, using data from OpenAlex and CrossRef, which are esteemed as the most comprehensive bibliometric platforms available to the scientific community today.
