Data Sources and Ranking Metrics
The 3rd edition of the Research.com Best Universities in Pakistan Ranking is based on a meticulous and transparent methodology utilizing a robust set of bibliometric data sources. The principal data sources underpinning this edition are OpenAlex and CrossRef, complemented by multiple additional data repositories to ensure comprehensiveness and accuracy. The bibliometric data, essential for developing citation-based metrics, were collected on 2024-11-27.
Institutional positions in the ranking are determined by aggregating the D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all ranking scholars affiliated with each university. The D-index only considers publications and citation data within the relevant discipline, ensuring that the metric reflects impact within a specific research area. Importantly, scientists from all major research specializations were considered in the construction of this ranking to provide a holistic and interdisciplinary perspective.
Scope of Research
The breadth of the ranking is underpinned by the evaluation of 279,971 scientist profiles, identified from a diverse array of bibliometric data sources spanning all major scientific disciplines. For inclusion, a qualifying D-index threshold of 20 was applied to each scientist, ensuring that only those with significant disciplinary impact were considered.
In addition to bibliometric indicators, scientists' awards and achievements in their fields of study were also factored into the assessment. This approach guarantees that the ranking not only reflects scholarly productivity and impact, but also recognizes distinctions and honors conferred upon researchers by the broader scientific community.
Verification and Evaluation Practices
We recognize that bibliometric data, while powerful, must be employed judiciously and never as an absolute measure of scholarly output. All scientist profiles included in the Research.com Best Universities in Pakistan Ranking underwent manual verification and cross-correlation against publications featured in a broad variety of trusted scientific sources. This additional layer of scrutiny helps mitigate the inherent limitations of raw data and ensures an accurate and fair representation.
While the number of papers published in leading journals and high-impact conference proceedings does not individually determine a researcher’s place in the Research.com ranking, it is nevertheless acknowledged as a valuable supplementary indicator of scientific contribution within a specific field. Institution and researcher positions in the ranking are primarily established using each researcher's H-index, as compiled from OpenAlex and CrossRef, which are recognized as among the most authoritative bibliometric databases in global academia.
