Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Economics and Finance Scientists in Cyprus Ranking is grounded in comprehensive bibliometric data sourced primarily from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other reputable data repositories. The citation-based metrics used to compile this ranking were meticulously collected on January 12, 2026. The ranking methodology centers on the Discipline H-index (D-index), a refined metric that evaluates a researcher’s scientific impact exclusively within the selected discipline by considering only relevant papers and their citation counts.
Scope of Research and Ranking Criteria
The ranking is built upon an extensive examination of 279,971 scientist profiles identified from various bibliometric data sources across all scientific disciplines. Specifically, 7 scientists from the field of Economics and Finance were analyzed based on rigorous inclusion criteria. To qualify for consideration, a scientist had to achieve a minimum D-index of 30, with a majority of their tier publications explicitly in Economics and Finance. Additionally, awards and notable achievements within the discipline were factored into assessing a researcher’s standing.
The D-index threshold for top researchers is dynamically set as increments of 10, calibrated according to the estimated total number of scholars within each discipline. This ensures that the top 1% of leading scholars in Economics and Finance are consistently included in the ranking. Furthermore, a maximum proximity threshold of 30% or less between a scientist’s overall H-index and their D-index is applied, emphasizing specialization within the discipline rather than generalized academic influence.
Verification and Validation Procedures
The Research.com team recognizes that raw bibliometric data, while invaluable, cannot serve as the sole definitive measure of scholarly contribution. Accordingly, all researcher profiles included in the ranking underwent a rigorous manual verification process. This process involved cross-correlating profile data against publications indexed in a broad array of trusted academic sources to confirm accuracy and relevance.
Although publication volume in prominent journals and conference proceedings is not a direct input metric for ranking positions, it remains an important secondary indicator of a scientist’s research impact within their field. Positioning within this ranking is firmly established using the D-index derived from OpenAlex and CrossRef — two of the most prominent and widely accepted bibliometric databases currently available to the global research community.
