Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Chemistry Scientists in Uruguay Ranking is primarily based on comprehensive bibliometric data obtained from reputable sources including OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other trusted data repositories. The bibliometric data used to devise the citation-based metrics for this ranking were collected on January 12, 2026. Central to the ranking methodology is the use of the D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that exclusively considers publication and citation data within the examined discipline of Chemistry. This ensures that the ranking reflects a researcher's impact and contribution specifically within their specialized field rather than across all academic areas.
Scope of Research and Ranking Criteria
The ranking examines an extensive pool of 279,971 scientist profiles identified from a variety of bibliometric sources spanning all scientific disciplines. Within this dataset, 5 scientists specializing in Chemistry from Uruguay were specifically analyzed. To qualify for inclusion in the Chemistry ranking, a researcher's D-index must be at least 40, and a majority of their tier publications must be focused in the area of Chemistry. Beyond bibliometric indicators, consideration is also given to a scientist’s awards and recognized achievements within the Chemistry field.
The D-index threshold is dynamically set in increments of 10 based on the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline, ensuring that the ranking consistently includes the top 1% of leading researchers. Additionally, to maintain disciplinary relevance, a proximity threshold of 30% or less between a scientist's overall H-index and their D-index is enforced. This criterion guarantees that their general research impact aligns closely with their domain-specific contributions.
Additional Verification Practices
At Research.com, we recognize that raw bibliometric data alone cannot serve as an absolute measure to evaluate scholarly output. Consequently, all scientist profiles were subject to manual verification and extensive cross-correlation against publications indexed in a broad range of authoritative and trustworthy sources. Although the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence a researcher’s position in the ranking, it remains a valuable secondary signal of their scientific contribution within the discipline.
The position in the ranking is ultimately established by applying each researcher’s D-index derived from data gathered from OpenAlex and CrossRef, which are among the most prominent and widely respected bibliometric databases accessible to the research community today.
