The bibliometric data used to devise the citation-based metrics reflected in this ranking were collected as of January 12, 2026. Each scientist’s position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that accounts solely for papers and citation data within the specific discipline under examination, ensuring a focused and discipline-relevant assessment of academic influence.
Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
The underlying data encompassed a total of 279,971 scientist profiles identified across diverse bibliometric sources, covering all scientific disciplines. Within this extensive dataset, 1,XXX scientists specializing in Business and Management were specifically examined for inclusion in the ranking.
To qualify, a researcher’s D-index in Business and Management had to be at least 30. Furthermore, a majority of their tier publications—defined by journal prestige and impact—were required to be within the Business and Management domain. In addition to bibliometric indicators, scientists’ awards and achievements relevant to this discipline were considered as supplementary factors.
The D-index threshold is dynamically set in increments of 10 based on the estimated total number of scholars per discipline. This approach guarantees that the top 1% of leading scholars in Business and Management are incorporated into the list. Another quality control measure enforces that the proximity between a scientist’s overall H-index and their D-index for Business and Management is 30% or less, ensuring discipline-specific relevance and minimizing inflation from unrelated fields.
Additional Verification and Ranking Methodology
The researchers responsible for this ranking recognize the limitations of relying solely on raw bibliometric data as an absolute evaluation tool. Consequently, all scientist profiles included were manually verified and cross-correlated against publications in a broad spectrum of trustworthy academic sources. This meticulous verification process enhances the credibility and accuracy of the ranking.
While not contributing directly to the rank position, the number of publications authored in prominent journals and conference proceedings is considered a valuable secondary signal reflecting a scientist’s substantive contributions to the advancement of Business and Management research.
Positions in the ranking are fundamentally established through the D-index computed from OpenAlex and CrossRef data—two of the most prominent and widely respected bibliometric databases accessible to the research community.
