Data Sources and Methodology
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Biology and Biochemistry Scientists in Luxembourg Ranking is grounded in comprehensive bibliometric data primarily sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, alongside multiple other reputable databases. The citation-based metrics used to establish the ranking were meticulously collected on January 12, 2026. A scientist’s position within the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that evaluates only the papers and corresponding citation data relevant to the examined discipline, thereby providing an accurate reflection of their impact within Biology and Biochemistry specifically.
Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
The ranking evaluates a total of 188,046 scientist profiles drawn from a broad set of bibliometric data sources spanning all scientific disciplines. Of these, 7 scientists were identified within the specialized fields of Biology and Biochemistry in Luxembourg. To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, researchers must possess a D-index of at least 40, with the majority of their tier publications focused explicitly on Biology and Biochemistry. Furthermore, consideration was given to scientists’ awards and significant achievements in the field.
The threshold for the D-index is calibrated incrementally by 10 points based on the estimated total number of scholars within each discipline. This methodology ensures that the top 1% of leading researchers are incorporated into the list. Additionally, there is a strict criterion maintaining that the difference between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index does not exceed 30%, ensuring consistency in their disciplinary impact.
Verification and Validation Practices
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data cannot serve as an absolute measure for evaluating scholarly output, the Research.com team implemented extensive manual verification processes. All scientist profiles were carefully scrutinized and cross-correlated against publications indexed in a wide range of trusted scholarly sources. While the number of papers published in high-impact journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence the ranking position, it is acknowledged as an important secondary indicator of a researcher’s contribution to their field.
The primary determinant for ranking placement remains each researcher’s D-index based on data from OpenAlex and CrossRef, which are currently the most prominent, comprehensive, and widely respected bibliometric databases accessible to the global research community.
