Best Biology and Biochemistry Scientists 2026 in Brazil

Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria

A total of 188,046 scientist profiles identified from a variety of bibliometric sources across all disciplines were examined, with 117 scientists specifically identified in the fields of Biology and Biochemistry. To qualify for inclusion in this ranking, a scientist's D-index was required to be at least 40, representing a high standard of scholarly impact within the discipline. Additionally, a majority of the researcher’s tier publications must be in Biology and Biochemistry to ensure relevance to the field.

Scientist awards and noteworthy achievements in Biology and Biochemistry were also incorporated as qualitative factors in the assessment process. The D-index threshold for defining top researchers is systematically calibrated in increments of 10, adjusted based on the total estimated number of scholars in each discipline. This approach guarantees that the ranking consistently incorporates the top 1% of leading scientists in the field.

Furthermore, to ensure discipline-specific excellence, it was required that there be a proximity of 30% or less between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index, thereby emphasizing scholars whose impact is concentrated in Biology and Biochemistry rather than across unrelated areas.

Verification Practices and Data Integrity

Understanding the limitations inherent in raw bibliometric data, the research team behind this ranking implemented a rigorous manual verification process. Each scientist profile was carefully cross-correlated against publications and records from a wide array of authoritative and trustworthy sources to confirm accuracy and authenticity.

While the number of papers published in high-impact journals and prominent conference proceedings does not directly influence ranking positions, it serves as an important secondary signal highlighting a scientist's substantive contribution to the field. The final rankings are established predominately based on the D-index extracted through data integration from OpenAlex and CrossRef — the two most prominent and widely recognized bibliometric databases utilized by the international research community.
