Data Sources and Ranking Criteria
The 4th edition of the Research.com Best Female Scientists in Sweden Ranking is the result of a rigorous analysis of data sourced primarily from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other reputable bibliometric databases. The core bibliometric data used for developing the citation-based metrics was collected on 2024-11-27. A scientist’s position within the ranking is determined by their H-index, a widely recognized and robust metric for evaluating the impact and productivity of a researcher’s scientific output.
Scope of Research and Selection Process
This ranking encompasses the profiles of 279,971 scientists identified from a diverse range of bibliometric sources, spanning all major scientific disciplines. To ensure representation across fields, the qualifying H-index threshold was set individually for each research area, generally at 30 or 40, reflecting the norms and publication practices of each discipline. In addition to H-index, scientists’ awards and achievements within their respective fields were also considered to provide a more comprehensive view of their professional standing. Ultimately, only the top 1,000 female scientists with the highest H-index scores are included in this prestigious ranking.
Verification and Validation Practices
The Research.com team recognizes that raw bibliometric data alone is not an infallible tool for evaluating scholarly impact. Accordingly, every scientist profile that appears in the ranking has undergone meticulous manual verification and has been cross-correlated against publication records from a broad array of trustworthy sources. While the total number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings is not a direct factor in a researcher’s ranking position, it remains a valuable signal of a scientist’s depth of contribution to their field.
It is important to note that a researcher’s position in the ranking is established based on their H-index, drawn specifically from OpenAlex and CrossRef — the two most prominent and widely respected bibliometric databases currently available to the academic community.
