Mathematics is universal — both its laws and the joy of its work are the same for all people. In today’s world, which is torn by extreme polarization, the universality of mathematics should be a reminder that we all, however different, are the same as human beings. We, the Local Organizing Committee, are creating an ICM where everybody will feel welcome and respected regardless of gender, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, social or economic status, religion, or any other personal beliefs, customs, or traits. We ask everyone in St. Petersburg and Russia to join us in welcoming the mathematicians of the world to ICM 2022. We also ask our foreign colleagues to see this as an opportunity to meet their colleagues and ordinary people from Russia, make new friends, and reconnect with old ones. Let this ICM be a celebration of unity and diversity in both mathematics and mathematicians.
