Overview

Liverpool John Moores University, also called LJMU, is one of the largest higher education institutions based in the United Kingdom. Situated in Liverpool, England, the university serves over 25,000 local and international students. The university is divided into five faculties: Faculty of Arts, Professional, and Social Studies, Faculty of Business and Law, Faculty of Health, Faculty of Science, and Faculty of Engineering and Technology. It is further structured into several schools, which include the Liverpool School of Art and Design, School of Education, Liverpool Screen School, and many more, each specializing in a particular field of study.

Established in 1823, Liverpool John Moores University started as a small mechanics school and was originally called the Liverpool Mechanics' School of Arts. It began as an all-boys grammar school in the English port city of Liverpool, with the goal of providing educational opportunities for men in the working class, especially those in the maritime industry. Over the years, the institution grew in student population and converged with several colleges, including the City of Liverpool C.F. Mott Training College and the F.L.Calder School of Domestic Science.

At present, the university comprises three large campuses with a total of 44 buildings. The City Campus, located at the heart of Liverpool, is within walking distance of many world-famous attractions, such as the Walker Art Gallery, the World Museum, and St. George’s Hall. The Mount Pleasant Campus, meanwhile, is known for its imposing skyline framed by two famous landmarks, the Metropolitan Cathedral and Liverpool's Anglican Cathedral. Lastly, the IM Marsh campus, located in Aigburth, provides scenic and impressive views of the Welsh hills.

Liverpool John Moores University also houses a wide range of student facilities, including high-spec teaching rooms and labs, IT zones, libraries, drama theater, restaurants, cafes, sports and fitness equipment, as well as plenty of social spaces. The university, driven by its strong commitment to providing a unique university experience, continues to provide a modern and inspiring learning space to all of its students.

Internationally, Liverpool John Moores University is widely recognized for its practical, hands-on approach to its teaching methodologies, as well as its notable research excellence in general engineering and sports-related sciences.
