Data Sources and Citation-Based Metrics
The 3rd edition of the Research.com Best Universities in Saudi Arabia Ranking is based on a comprehensive and rigorous analysis of bibliometric data. The primary sources informing this ranking are the OpenAlex and CrossRef databases, complemented by multiple other reputable data sources. The bibliometric input underpinning the citation-based metrics was collected on 2024-11-27, ensuring that the ranking reflects the most recent and up-to-date data available.
Institutional positions within the ranking are determined by the cumulative sum of the D-indexes (Discipline H-index) compiled from all ranking scholars affiliated with a given university or research institution. The D-index for each scientist reflects only publications and citation data specific to their examined discipline, enhancing the accuracy and specificity of the metric. Importantly, scholars across all major research areas were considered in order to present a holistic and inclusive evaluation of each institution's research performance.
Scope of Research and Evaluation Process
This edition’s ranking is grounded in the evaluation of 279,971 scientist profiles identified through various bibliometric data sources, spanning all major scientific disciplines. To ensure the quality and relevance of included profiles, a D-index (Discipline H-index) threshold of 20 was established for consideration. In addition to citation metrics, the presence of significant awards and achievements in each scientist’s specific field of study was also factored into the comprehensive assessment.
Verification and Quality Assurance Measures
The integrity and credibility of the ranking are upheld through stringent additional verification practices. The Research.com team recognizes that raw bibliometric data alone cannot fully encapsulate the breadth and depth of scholarly contribution. To address this, all identified scientist profiles were individually and manually verified, and cross-referenced against publications indexed in a diverse array of trustworthy and well-established sources.
While the quantity of papers published in leading journals and conference proceedings is not a direct determinant of ranking position in the Research.com system, it remains a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist’s impact within their field. The primary metric for a researcher's position in this ranking is their H-index, as established from data aggregated by OpenAlex and CrossRef, which are recognized as the most authoritative and widely-used bibliometric databases within the research community today.
