Data Sources and Ranking Methodology
The 3rd edition of the Research.com Best Universities in Philippines Ranking is built on a robust foundation of comprehensive bibliometric data. The principal sources for the data underlying this edition are OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other reputable data sources. All bibliometric information used to construct the citation-based metrics, including publication and citation counts, was collected as of 2024-11-27.
A university's position in the ranking is determined by the aggregate sum of the D-indexes (Discipline H-indexes) of all ranking scholars affiliated with the institution. The D-index exclusively reflects publications and citations in the scientist’s examined discipline. However, ranking consideration is broad, encompassing scientists across all major research areas. This method ensures that the ranking accurately reflects a university’s contribution to research excellence within each discipline.
Scope of Research and Scholar Inclusion
This ranking draws from an extensive analysis of 279,971 scientist profiles identified from diverse bibliometric databases. Scientists from all key scientific fields were evaluated, ensuring inclusive representation across disciplines. To qualify for inclusion, each scientist was required to meet a minimum D-index threshold of 20.
In addition to bibliometric performance, the researchers' international awards and academic achievements in their respective fields were reviewed and incorporated as supplementary factors. This multifaceted approach ensures that both quantitative impact and qualitative recognition are acknowledged in the ranking.
Verification and Quality Control
Recognizing the inherent limitations of raw bibliometric data, the Research.com team implemented rigorous verification protocols to enhance reliability. Each scientist's profile was manually verified and cross-checked against publications from a broad range of trustworthy sources.
While the number of papers published in leading journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence an individual’s position in the Research.com ranking, it is recognized as a valuable signal of a researcher's impact within their field. The primary basis for ranking remains each scholar’s H-index, compiled from OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most authoritative and widely used bibliometric databases in the academic community.
