Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 4th edition of the Research.com Best Universities in Chile Ranking is primarily based on comprehensive bibliometric data extracted from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other reputable data sources. The citation-based metrics that underpin this ranking were collected as of January 12, 2026. Each institution’s position in the ranking is determined by the aggregated sum of D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all ranking scholars affiliated with that institution. The D-index specifically incorporates only publications and citation data pertinent to the examined discipline, while encompassing scientists from all major research areas to ensure a holistic evaluation across the research spectrum.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
The ranking process examined 279,971 scientist profiles identified from a broad array of bibliometric databases, spanning all major scientific disciplines. To qualify for inclusion, scientists were required to meet a minimum D-index threshold of 20 within their respective disciplines. In addition to bibliometric indicators, scientists’ awards and noteworthy achievements in their fields were also carefully considered as part of the evaluation, providing an additional measure of their scholarly impact and excellence.
Verification and Methodological Integrity
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone can never comprehensively capture the multifaceted contributions of scholars, the research team undertook rigorous manual verification of all scientist profiles. These profiles were cross-correlated against publications indexed in a wide range of trustworthy academic sources to ensure reliability and accuracy. While the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence a researcher's rank, it serves as a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist’s influence within their specific research area.
