Institutional positions within the ranking are determined by the aggregate of the D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all ranking scholars affiliated with a given institution. Notably, the D-index is calculated based exclusively on publications and citation data within the specific scientific discipline being examined, ensuring that discipline-specific contributions are accurately reflected. The ranking encompasses scientists from all major research areas, providing a holistic view of academic excellence across diverse fields.
Scope of Research Evaluated
The scope of the ranking is extensive, covering 279,971 scientist profiles identified through a thorough review of various bibliometric data sources. These profiles span all major scientific disciplines to present a comprehensive and inclusive assessment of research impact. To qualify for inclusion, scientists needed to meet a strict threshold—a D-index of at least 20—guaranteeing that only those with significant research influence were considered. In addition to citation metrics, scientists’ awards and achievements in their specific fields of study were taken into account, further recognizing exceptional contributions to research and academia.
Verification and Validation Practices
Recognizing that raw data alone cannot capture the full nuance and depth of scholarly impact, the ranking is underpinned by an equally rigorous verification process. All scientist profiles were manually verified and cross-referenced against publications in a wide array of trustworthy and recognized sources to ensure data accuracy and authenticity.
While the number of papers published in leading journals and prominent conference proceedings does not directly influence a researcher’s position in the Research.com ranking, it remains an important secondary indicator of a scientist's ongoing contribution to their field. The final ranking positions are established using each researcher’s H-index, as determined by data obtained from OpenAlex and CrossRef—the most recognized and authoritative bibliometric databases available to the global research community.
