Data Sources and Methodology
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Economics and Finance Scientists in Kazakhstan Ranking is primarily constructed from comprehensive bibliometric data sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other reliable data repositories. These sources represent some of the most expansive and authoritative databases accessible to the research community, ensuring the robustness of the dataset used in this ranking. Bibliometric data, including publication and citation metrics, were meticulously collected on January 12, 2026, forming the foundational basis for computing the citation-based indicators that underpin this ranking.
A scientist’s position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), an advanced metric that specifically filters papers and citations relevant exclusively to the discipline under examination. This approach allows for an accurate representation of a researcher’s impact within the specialized field of Economics and Finance, thereby avoiding the distortion potentially caused by interdisciplinary citation practices.
Scope of Research and Eligibility Criteria
The ranking was developed by analyzing 279,971 scientist profiles aggregated from diverse bibliometric data sources across all academic disciplines, including two key researchers specializing specifically in Economics and Finance. To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a researcher’s D-index was required to meet a minimum threshold of 30, and the majority of their tier publications had to be focused within the Economics and Finance discipline. Additionally, consideration was given to scientists’ awards and recognized achievements specific to this field, highlighting distinguished scholarly contributions.
The D-index threshold is calibrated in increments of 10 relative to the estimated total number of scholars per discipline, ensuring that the ranking systematically incorporates the top 1% of leading scientists within each field. Furthermore, to validate disciplinary focus and impact, the proximity between a scientist’s overall H-index and their D-index must not exceed 30%, ensuring consistency between their general research influence and specialized contributions.
Verification and Validation Procedures
The research team behind the ranking acknowledges that raw bibliometric data alone cannot serve as an absolute measure of scholarly output or impact. Consequently, all scientist profiles were subjected to a rigorous manual verification process and cross-correlated against publications from a broad spectrum of trusted academic sources. This additional layer of scrutiny reinforces the accuracy and credibility of the ranking.
While not directly affecting the ranking position, the quantity of papers published in prominent journals and high-quality conference proceedings is considered a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist’s contribution to research within the discipline. Ultimately, ranking positions are assigned based on the D-index derived from the curated data obtained from OpenAlex and CrossRef, the premier bibliometric platforms well-recognized by the international scientific community.
