Data Sources and Ranking Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Chemistry Scientists in Vietnam Ranking is primarily based on bibliometric data aggregated from highly reputable sources, including OpenAlex and CrossRef, alongside multiple other data repositories. The citation-based metrics used to formulate this ranking were collected comprehensively on January 12, 2026. A scientist’s position within the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that specifically includes only those papers and citation records relevant to the examined discipline—in this case, Chemistry. This approach ensures a focused assessment of scientific impact within the targeted research area rather than general scholarly activity.
Scope of Research and Eligibility Criteria
The ranking analysis was conducted on a robust dataset encompassing 279,971 scientist profiles identified across diverse bibliometric sources covering all scientific disciplines. Among these, 1,364 scientists specifically affiliated with Chemistry were examined. To qualify for inclusion in the Chemistry ranking, a researcher’s D-index had to meet a minimum threshold of 40, and a majority of their tier publications needed to be within the field of Chemistry. Additionally, professional recognition such as awards and notable achievements in Chemistry were considered as supplementary indicators of research excellence.
The D-index threshold is calibrated as increments of 10 tailored to the estimated population size of scholars within each discipline, with the goal of ensuring that the top 1% of leading experts are included. To maintain disciplinary focus and relevance, a proximity constraint of 30% or less between a scientist’s general H-index and their Chemistry-specific D-index was applied.
Verification and Validation Practices
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot serve as an absolute measure of scholarly output, all scientist profiles underwent meticulous manual verification. This involved cross-correlation with publications in a broad array of respected journals and conference proceedings, sourced from credible academic outlets. Although the number of publications in prominent journals does not directly influence the ranking position, it is regarded as a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist’s contribution within the discipline.
The ranking itself is established using each researcher’s D-index as derived from OpenAlex and CrossRef, two of the most authoritative and comprehensive bibliometric databases publicly available to the research community.
