Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Business and Management Scientists in Brazil Ranking primarily leverages bibliometric data drawn from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other reputable data sources to ensure comprehensiveness and accuracy. Citation-based metrics used in constructing the ranking were assembled on January 12, 2026. A scientist’s position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined bibliometric indicator that accounts solely for publications and citation data within the evaluated discipline, thereby providing a focused measure of impact and productivity specific to Business and Management research.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
The ranking is derived from the examination of an extensive database comprising 279,971 scientist profiles identified across diverse bibliometric platforms spanning all academic disciplines, including a dedicated subset of 3,000 scientists specifically associated with Business and Management. To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, researchers must have a D-index of at least 30 within the Business and Management discipline. Additionally, the majority of a qualifying scientist’s tier publications must be concentrated in this field. Consideration is also given to their awards and notable achievements pertinent to Business and Management.
The threshold for the D-index is adaptively set in increments of 10 based on the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline, ensuring that the top 1% of leading researchers are consistently represented. Moreover, eligible scientists must exhibit a proximity of 30% or less between their overall general H-index and their discipline-specific D-index, thereby affirming a specialized focus in Business and Management research.
Additional Verification Practices
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone can never serve as a definitive measure of scholarly output, the Research.com team has implemented rigorous manual verification procedures. Each scientist profile was meticulously vetted and cross-referenced with publications indexed in a broad spectrum of trustworthy academic sources. While the number of published papers in prestigious journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence the ranking outcome, it is regarded as a valuable secondary indicator of a scholar’s contribution within a specific scientific domain.
The ranking positions are ultimately established using the D-index calculated from data sourced primarily from OpenAlex and CrossRef, which remain the most prominent and trusted bibliometric databases available to the global research community.
