A scientist’s position in this ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index). This discipline-specific metric considers only the publications and citations related to the scientist’s work within the Business and Management field, allowing for an accurate reflection of their impact and expertise in this discipline.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
The ranking was developed after examining 279,971 scientist profiles sourced from diverse bibliometric repositories covering all scientific disciplines. Among these, profiles of 3,000 scientists specializing in Business and Management were isolated and analyzed in depth.
To qualify for inclusion in the Business and Management ranking, a researcher had to meet the following criteria:
- A minimum D-index of 30.
- A majority of their tier publications must fall within the Business and Management discipline.
- Recognition based on awards and noteworthy achievements specifically within the field of Business and Management was also taken into account.
The threshold D-index value is dynamically set with increments of 10, tailored according to the estimated total number of scholars within each discipline. This approach guarantees that the top 1% of leading experts in Business and Management are consistently represented in the list. Additionally, eligibility requires a close alignment between a scientist's overall H-index and their discipline-specific D-index, restricting a margin of discrepancy to no more than 30% to ensure an authentic reflection of specialized impact.
Verification and Validation Practices
While bibliometric data provide critical quantitative insights, the Research.com team recognizes that raw citation metrics alone cannot serve as an absolute measure of scholarly impact. To this end, all scientist profiles included in the ranking underwent meticulous manual verification. Profiles were cross-referenced against an extensive array of authoritative sources to confirm accuracy and credibility.
Although not used directly to determine ranking position, the count of publications in high-impact journals and leading conference proceedings was also reviewed and considered an important secondary indicator of scientific contribution within the Business and Management discipline.
The primary ranking metric—the D-index—is calculated using rigorously gathered data from OpenAlex and CrossRef, two of the most prominent and trusted bibliometric databases accessible to the research community worldwide.
