The bibliometric data used to devise the citation-based metrics for this ranking were collected on January 12, 2026. A scientist’s position in the ranking is determined exclusively by their H-index, a widely recognized metric reflecting both productivity and citation impact.
Scope and Criteria of Research
The ranking examined a total of 279,971 scientist profiles identified from a diversity of bibliometric data sources, encompassing all major scientific disciplines. To qualify for inclusion, scientists needed to meet minimum H-index thresholds tailored to their respective fields of research — these criteria generally ranged between 30 and 40. In addition to the H-index, noted awards and achievements within each scientist’s discipline were also considered, ensuring recognition of prominent contributions beyond citation counts alone. Ultimately, only the top 1,000 scientists with the highest H-indices were included in this prestigious listing.
Verification Practices and Methodological Rigor
Recognizing the inherent limitations of raw bibliometric data as an evaluative tool, the research team implemented rigorous additional verification procedures. Each scientist’s profile was manually reviewed and cross-correlated against publication records sourced from a wide array of reputable journals, conference proceedings, and other trustworthy outlets. While the volume of publications in leading journals and conferences does not directly affect the ranking position, it serves as a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist’s scholarly influence and contribution within specific fields.
