Data Sources and Metrics Used in the 4th Edition
The 4th edition of the Research.com Best Female Scientists in France Ranking leverages comprehensive data collected primarily from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by several other reputable bibliometric sources. To ensure the relevance and currency of the ranking, bibliometric data used to derive citation-based metrics were gathered on 2024-11-27. The primary metric used to determine each scientist’s position in the ranking is the researcher’s H-index, a widely recognized indicator of scholarly impact that reflects both the productivity and citation impact of the published work of a scientist.
Scope of Research and Eligibility Criteria
This ranking undertakes a rigorous evaluation of 279,971 scientist profiles sourced from a diverse set of bibliometric data providers, encompassing all major scientific disciplines in France. Eligibility criteria for inclusion were tailored according to each research area: the qualifying H-index threshold was typically set at 30 or 40, depending on the specific discipline. In addition to bibliometric metrics, each scientist’s awards and achievements within their field were also carefully considered. Importantly, only the top 1,000 female scientists with the highest H-index values are featured in the final ranking, reflecting the highest levels of scientific accomplishment and recognition.
Verification and Data Quality Assurance
Research.com is committed to the integrity and reliability of its rankings. Our researchers recognize that raw bibliometric data alone should never be viewed as an absolute measure of a scholar’s impact. As such, all scientist profiles were manually verified and cross-referenced against publications found in numerous trusted databases and scholarly resources. While the number of papers published in prestigious journals and conference proceedings is not a direct factor in determining ranking position, it is nevertheless considered a valuable supplementary indicator of a scientist’s contribution within their discipline.
Positions in the ranking are exclusively established using the H-index metric, with data sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, two of the most authoritative and widely recognized bibliometric databases available to the research community.
