Ottawa University-Surprise's campus traditions are newer than those of the university's original Kansas location. OUAZ athletic events and university community gatherings provide recurring opportunities for students to meet outside class, but a Kansas-campus tradition should not automatically be described as a Surprise-campus event.
Because event calendars and names change, students seeking a particular celebration - such as a homecoming program, faith gathering, or student-led festival - should consult the current OUAZ calendar rather than rely on a prior year's schedule. The most useful question for a prospective student is not whether an event has a familiar name, but whether it takes place in Surprise and is open to the students who want to participate.
Ottawa University-Surprise offers university-operated housing to undergraduates and has campus dining arrangements. Availability of housing does not mean that every admitted student is guaranteed a room or that every room and meal-plan option costs the same.
Before committing to live on campus, students should review the current housing application, contract dates, assignment rules, and meal-plan terms. They should also ask which charges are mandatory for their housing choice and what happens if they leave housing during the academic year. Students considering off-campus housing should compare the full cost - including utilities, transportation, and lease length - with the campus option. OUAZ's reported annual room and board charges are discussed in the cost section; an individual contract and aid offer will determine the more relevant personal estimate.
