Overview of the University of Évora

Founded in 1559, the University of Évora (Universidade de Évora) stands as one of Portugal’s oldest and most esteemed public institutions of higher learning. Situated in the historic city of Évora, a UNESCO World Heritage site in southern Portugal, the university has a rich Jesuit heritage and was re-established as a modern institution in 1973. Today, it operates as a comprehensive university, serving approximately 9,000 students and supported by around 700 academic staff across four main faculties and several dispersed research institutes, thus offering both breadth and depth in education and research.
