A university’s position in the ranking is determined by the aggregate D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all affiliated scholars whose principal publication area is Chemistry. The D-index is calculated exclusively based on publications and citation data within the discipline under examination, ensuring a focused and accurate reflection of research performance in Chemistry.
Scope of Research
Our analysis covered an extensive body of researchers, with 279,971 scientist profiles examined from a wide array of bibliometric data sources. Specifically, 279,971 scientists in Chemistry were included in the assessment. To ensure a high-quality selection, the qualifying D-index threshold for each scientist was set at 40, with the majority of their publications required to be in the field of Chemistry. In addition to bibliometric indicators, awards and other significant achievements in Chemistry played a role in evaluating a scientist’s profile.
The D-index threshold for recognizing top-tier researchers increases in increments of 10, tailored to the estimated total number of scholars for each discipline. This method guarantees the incorporation of the top 1% of leading scientists. Furthermore, to maintain accuracy in disciplinary expertise, a required proximity of 30% or less is upheld between a scientist’s overall H-index and their D-index. The careful consideration of scholarly awards and achievements further complements this robust selection framework.
Verification Practices and Data Validation
We recognize the limitations of raw bibliometric data and affirm that it is never intended as an absolute tool for evaluating scholarly output. To ensure the accuracy and reliability of the ranking, every scientist profile underwent manual verification and was thoroughly cross-referenced against publications in a range of verified and trustworthy sources.
Although the number of publications in top journals and proceedings does not directly influence a scientist’s position in the Research.com ranking, we encourage stakeholders to regard it as a significant secondary signal of research activity and influence within the Chemistry field.
A researcher’s placement in the ranking is computed using their H-index, as curated from the authoritative OpenAlex and CrossRef databases, widely recognized for their breadth, accuracy, and relevance in the research community.
