Institutions are ranked based on the aggregate of the D-indexes (Discipline H-indexes) of all ranking scholars affiliated with each university. The D-index includes exclusively publications and citation data within a given discipline. Nevertheless, scientists from all major research disciplines were evaluated during the compilation of the ranking, ensuring comprehensive institutional representation.
Scope of Research
For this edition, an extensive evaluation was conducted across scientific disciplines, encompassing a total of 279,971 scientist profiles identified from a wide range of bibliometric sources. Each scientist’s contribution was assessed according to a qualifying D-index threshold, which was set at 20. To provide a holistic assessment of academic impact, researchers’ awards and notable achievements in their respective fields were also taken into account, further enhancing the robustness and fairness of the ranking.
Data Verification and Evaluation Practices
Recognizing the inherent limitations of relying solely on raw bibliometric data to evaluate academic productivity and impact, the Research.com team undertook an additional thorough manual verification of all scientist profiles included in the ranking. Profiles were cross-referenced with publication records across an extensive array of reputable and authoritative sources to ensure both accuracy and integrity.
While the primary determinant for an individual’s standing in the Research.com ranking is the H-index (as derived from OpenAlex and CrossRef—the most prominent and recognized bibliometric platforms in the research community), it is worth noting that the number of papers published in high-impact journals and conference proceedings, while not a formal ranking factor, remains a valuable secondary indicator of scholarly impact within a specific research domain.
