Data Sources and Ranking Methodology
The 4th edition of the Research.com Best Universities in Romania Ranking is primarily based on comprehensive bibliometric data sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other reliable data repositories. The citation-based metrics used to compile the ranking were derived from bibliometric data collected as of January 12, 2026. Each institution’s position in the ranking is determined by the summation of D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all affiliated scholars included in the ranking. The D-index exclusively accounts for publications and citation data within a specific discipline, ensuring precise measurement of scholarly impact. To ensure broad coverage, scientists across all major research areas were considered when generating the ranking.
Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
The ranking examined a total of 279,971 scientist profiles identified from a variety of respected bibliometric data sources, encompassing all major scientific disciplines. To qualify, each scientist was required to have a minimum D-index threshold of 20 within their discipline. Furthermore, awards and significant achievements in their respective fields were also taken into account to strengthen the evaluation of scholarly excellence. This rigorous selection guarantees that the ranking reflects leading experts whose contributions have meaningful impact within their domain.
Additional Verification Practices
Research.com recognizes that raw bibliometric data alone is insufficient as an absolute measure of scholarly output. Therefore, all scientist profiles were manually verified by cross-correlating publication records against a wide range of trustworthy sources. While the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence a researcher's ranking position, it serves as a valuable secondary indicator of their scientific contribution to a specific area. Importantly, the final ranking position is established using each researcher’s H-index, derived from data aggregated by OpenAlex and CrossRef — both widely respected and comprehensive bibliometric databases accessible to the international research community.
