Data Sources and Methodology
The 3rd edition of the Research.com Best Universities in Romania Ranking is built upon a robust foundation of data gathered from several leading bibliometric databases, with a particular emphasis on OpenAlex and CrossRef, in addition to multiple other reliable sources. The bibliometric data utilized to devise the citation-based metrics central to this ranking were collected on 2024-11-27.
A university's position in the ranking is determined by the aggregate D-index (Discipline H-index) compiled from all ranking scholars affiliated with that institution. The D-index is an H-index variant that focuses exclusively on publications and citation data within a specific discipline. For the purposes of this ranking, scientists spanning all major research areas were considered, ensuring comprehensive coverage and accurate representation of multi-disciplinary contributions.
Scope of Research
This ranking is the culmination of a comprehensive analysis of 279,971 scientist profiles sourced from diverse bibliometric databases. Scholars across all major scientific disciplines were examined. Only scientists with a D-index of at least 20 qualified for inclusion, which underscores a significant body of impactful research within their specialized field. In addition to bibliometric measures, individual awards and achievements relevant to each scientist's field of study were also factored into the evaluation process, ensuring a holistic approach to identifying leading researchers.
Verification and Quality Assurance
The team behind Research.com is acutely aware that raw bibliometric data is not an absolute measure of scholarly output or quality. Accordingly, every scientist profile included in this ranking has undergone meticulous manual verification. Profiles and publication data have been cross-referenced against a broad spectrum of trustworthy and authoritative sources.
While the number of published papers in prestigious journals and conferences is not a direct factor affecting a scientist’s standing in this ranking, it is recognized as a valuable indicator of ongoing academic output and excellence within a specific discipline. Ultimately, the rank of each researcher—and by extension, each institution—relies on the individual H-index within their area of expertise, drawing upon the authoritative data provided by OpenAlex and CrossRef, two of the academic community’s most respected bibliometric resources.
