Overview

Top Research Topics at Cancer Research and Treatment?

Cancer Research and Treatment is organized to address concerns in the fields of Internal medicine, Oncology, Cancer, Chemotherapy and Pathology. The journal holds forums on Internal medicine that merges themes from other disciplines such as Gastroenterology and Surgery. The research on Gastroenterology discussed in the journal draws on the closely related field of Neutropenia.

In the journal, Stage (cooking), Colorectal cancer, Radiation therapy and Retrospective cohort study are investigated in conjunction with one another to address concerns in Oncology research. Radiation therapy studies tackled cover an aspect of the field of Radiology. The studies tackled, which mainly focus on Cancer, apply to Incidence (epidemiology) as well.

While the journal focused on Chemotherapy, it was also able to explore topics like Regimen and Oxaliplatin. Cancer research, Metastasis and Lung are some topics wherein Pathology research discussed in Cancer Research and Treatment have an impact. It addresses concerns in Cancer research which are intertwined with other disciplines, such as Cancer cell, Cell culture and Cell growth.

  • Internal medicine (48.00%)
  • Oncology (28.07%)
  • Cancer (21.03%)

What are the most cited papers published in the journal?

  • Cancer Statistics in Korea: Incidence, Mortality, Survival, and Prevalence in 2012 (1098 citations)
  • Recent developments in delivery, bioavailability, absorption and metabolism of curcumin: The golden pigment from golden spice (559 citations)
  • Cancer Statistics in Korea: Incidence, Mortality, Survival and Prevalence in 2010 (396 citations)

Research areas of the most cited articles at Cancer Research and Treatment:

The journal publications investigate studies in Internal medicine, Cancer, Oncology, Incidence (epidemiology) and Pathology. The works on Internal medicine tackled in the journal articles bring together disciplines like Gastroenterology and Surgery. The Cancer incidence studies presented in the published papers fall under the field of Incidence (epidemiology), but they also have connections to other fields such as Mortality survival.

What topics the last edition of the journal is best known for?

  • Cancer
  • Internal medicine
  • Gene

The previous edition focused in particular on these issues:

The main research concerns discussed in the journal are Internal medicine, Cancer, Oncology, Confidence interval and Chemotherapy. The journal addresses concerns in the field of Internal medicine by exploring it in line with topics in Gastroenterology which intersect with Regimen subjects. The journal tackles studies in Incidence (epidemiology) and the interrelated subject of Survival rate to gain insights into Cancer.

While Oncology is the focus of it, it also provided insights into the studies of Multivariate analysis, Concordance, Lymphoma, Survival analysis and Cohort. The work on Confidence interval tackled in Cancer Research and Treatment brings together disciplines like Odds ratio, Colorectal cancer and Prospective cohort study. Topics in Lung cancer were tackled in line with various other fields like Cancer research and Adenocarcinoma.

The most cited articles from the last journal are:

  • Cancer Statistics in Korea: Incidence, Mortality, Survival, and Prevalence in 2018. (16 citations)
  • Risk of Coronavirus Disease 2019 Occurrence, Severe Presentation, and Mortality in Patients with Lung Cancer. (5 citations)
  • The Pattern of Time to Onset and Resolution of Immune-Related Adverse Events Caused by Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors in Cancer: A Pooled Analysis of 23 Clinical Trials and 8,436 Patients. (5 citations)

Papers citation over time

A key indicator for each journal is its effectiveness in reaching other researchers with the papers published at that venue.

The chart below presents the interquartile range (first quartile 25%, median 50% and third quartile 75%) of the number of citations of articles over time.

The top authors publishing in Cancer Research and Treatment (based on the number of publications) are:

The overall trend for top affiliations publishing in this journal is outlined below. The chart shows the number of publications at each edition of the journal for top affiliations.

Publication chance based on affiliation

The publication chance index shows the ratio of articles published by the best research institutions in the journal edition to all articles published within that journal. The best research institutions were selected based on the largest number of articles published during all editions of the journal.

The chart below presents the percentage ratio of articles from top institutions (based on their ranking of total papers).Top affiliations were grouped by their rank into the following tiers: top 1-10, top 11-20, top 21-50, and top 51+. Only articles with a recognized affiliation are considered.

During the most recent 2021 edition, 8.16% of publications had an unrecognized affiliation. Out of the publications with recognized affiliations, 69.44% were posted by at least one author from the top 10 institutions publishing in the journal. Another 6.67% included authors affiliated with research institutions from the top 11-20 affiliations. Institutions from the 21-50 range included 6.67% of all publications and 17.22% were from other institutions.

Returning Authors Index

A very common phenomenon observed among researchers publishing scientific articles is the intentional selection of journals they have already attended in the past. In particular, it is worth analyzing the case when the authors participate in the same journal from year to year.

The Returning Authors Index presented below illustrates the ratio of authors who participated in both a given as well as the previous edition of the journal in relation to all participants in a given year.

Returning Institution Index

The graph below shows the Returning Institution Index, illustrating the ratio of institutions that participated in both a given and the previous edition of the conference in relation to all affiliations present in a given year.

The experience to innovation index

Our experience to innovation index was created to show a cross-section of the experience level of authors publishing in a journal. The index includes the authors publishing at the last edition of a journal, grouped by total number of publications throughout their academic career (P) and the total number of citations of these publications ever received (C).

The group intervals were selected empirically to best show the diversity of the authors' experiences, their labels were selected as a convenience, not as judgment. The authors were divided into the following groups:

  • Novice - P < 5 or C < 25 (the number of publications less than 5 or the number of citations less than 25),
  • Competent - P < 10 or C < 100 (the number of publications less than 10 or the number of citations less than 100),
  • Experienced - P < 25 or C < 625 (the number of publications less than 25 or the number of citations less than 625),
  • Master - P < 50 or C < 2500 (the number of publications less than 50 or the number of citations less than 2500),
  • Star - P ≥ 50 and C ≥ 2500 (both the number of publications greater than 50 and the number of citations greater than 2500).

The chart below illustrates experience levels of first authors in cases of publications with multiple authors.

Interdisciplinary Approach: Combining Nursing and Oncology

One aspect not covered in the current write-up is the intersection of nursing and oncology. Recognizing the strength in cross-disciplinary research, the journal often integrates findings from other disciplines like nursing. In recent times, this approach has allowed the exploration of various aspects of oncology nursing and the development of advanced nursing practices for cancer patients. Nursing practices, particularly related to oncology, have evolved significantly over the years. There are now dedicated online resources that offer day-to-day updates on the best practices in oncology nursing, like online nursing programs in New Hampshire. Many of these programs emphasize providing nurses with a robust understanding of oncology, ensuring they can adequately care for and support cancer patients. This cross-pollination between nursing and oncology research is crucial because advances in the treatment methodologies have emphasized patient comfort and quality of life, something nursing excels in. As the treatment options and survival rates for cancer patients continue to improve, the role of nursing in oncology becomes increasingly important. Consequently, any discourse revolving around oncology and cancer research can significantly benefit from incorporating nursing perspectives.
