Wheaton College prioritizes the safety and well-being of its students by providing various resources and services to ensure a secure community. The Department of Public Safety is responsible for crime prevention, emergency response, and educational programs. Students are encouraged to be aware of their surroundings and incorporate safety practices into their daily routine, such as staying alert, having keys ready when walking to their vehicle or residence, and walking on well-traveled, well-lit routes.
To further enhance campus safety, Wheaton College offers a 24-hour hotline, trained security personnel, late-night transportation services, and electronically-operated dormitory entrances. Public Safety responds to emergencies and requests for service 24 hours a day, and students can report any suspicious individuals, activities, or emergencies on campus by calling Public Safety or utilizing emergency phones placed throughout campus.
In addition to on-campus safety measures, Wheaton College provides institutional insurance policies for students participating in international off-campus programs. These policies include medevac insurance, liability insurance, and travel accident and sickness insurance. Students participating in the HNGR program are required to carry an up-to-date small First Aid kit, map their community's health resources, and regularly communicate with the HNGR program's Student Support Coordinator.
Wheaton College also takes the protection of personal information seriously and has implemented various measures to ensure the security and privacy of its users. The Technology Acceptable Use Policy outlines the acceptable use of technology resources owned, managed, or provided by the organization, while the Privacy Policy explains the information gathering and dissemination practices for all College websites and servers. The College implements appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect user information when it is transmitted and stored on its information technology systems, including encrypting sensitive personal or financial information transmitted online and limiting access to user information offline.
