Data Sources and Methodology Overview
The 3rd edition of the Research.com Best Universities in Slovakia Ranking is based on a rigorous analysis of bibliometric data primarily obtained from OpenAlex and CrossRef, as well as multiple other trusted data sources. The bibliometric data underpinning the citation-based metrics used in the ranking were systematically collected on 2024-11-27. An institution’s position in the ranking is determined by the aggregate D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all ranking scholars associated with that institution. The D-index is calculated exclusively based on publications and citation data relevant to the discipline under assessment. However, the ranking comprehensively considers researchers from all major scientific areas to provide an accurate and multi-disciplinary representation of academic excellence.
Scope of Research Considered
To ensure the ranking reflects the breadth of Slovakian research, a total of 279,971 scientist profiles were examined. These profiles were identified from a variety of bibliometric sources and represent virtually all major scientific disciplines. The inclusion criteria set a qualifying D-index threshold of 20 for each scientist, ensuring a high standard of scholarly output. Additionally, a scientist’s relevant awards and achievements within their area of study were also taken into consideration, further supporting a holistic evaluation of research impact and reputation.
Additional Verification Measures
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot capture the full scope and impact of scholarly contributions, the research team implemented a comprehensive manual verification process. Every scientist profile included was carefully reviewed and cross-checked against publications indexed by a broad range of authoritative sources. While the number of papers published in prominent journals and leading conference proceedings is not a direct factor in the Research.com ranking, it serves as a valuable secondary indicator of a researcher’s impact within their specific scientific domain.
Positions in the ranking are established based on each researcher’s H-index, calculated using information sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most respected bibliometric databases available to the global research community.
