Sources of Data and Ranking Methodology
The 3rd edition of the Research.com Best Universities in Singapore Ranking is founded on a robust compilation of bibliometric data sourced primarily from OpenAlex and CrossRef, as well as multiple additional data sources. These platforms provide extensive and widely recognized coverage of scholarly publications and citations. All bibliometric data utilized in developing our citation-based metrics were collected as of 2024-11-27, ensuring recency and relevance in our analyses.
A university’s position in the ranking is determined by the cumulative D-index (Discipline H-index) scores of all ranking scholars affiliated with that institution. The D-index considers only publications and citation data relevant to a scholar's examined discipline, reflecting a precise measurement of disciplinary impact. However, scientists from all major research areas were included in our assessment to ensure comprehensive representation and objectivity.
Scope of Research Considered
The 3rd edition ranking encompasses the analysis of 279,971 scientist profiles identified from a wide spectrum of bibliometric data sources. These profiles span all major scientific disciplines, underscoring the breadth of our evaluation. A qualifying threshold was established such that only scientists with a D-index of 20 or higher were considered, ensuring that all included researchers have demonstrated substantial academic impact within their respective domains.
Additionally, while bibliometric indicators form the core basis for evaluation, we also took into account each scientist’s awards and achievements in their area of study. This holistic approach further enriches the quality and credibility of our institution rankings.
Verification and Data Integrity Practices
Recognizing that raw data alone is insufficient for a nuanced evaluation of scholarly output, the researchers behind this ranking implemented rigorous cross-verification procedures. Every scientist profile underwent manual review and was cross-referenced against publications appearing in a diverse selection of reliable, high-quality sources.
Although not a direct factor influencing a scientist’s position in the Research.com ranking, the total number of papers published in prominent journals and reputable conference proceedings is acknowledged as a valuable secondary indicator of a researcher’s contributions to their field.
Ultimately, each researcher’s position is established using their H-index as extracted from OpenAlex and CrossRef—databases widely regarded as the leading bibliometric resources in the academic community.
