Data Sources and Ranking Methodology
The 3rd edition of the Research.com Best Universities in Netherlands Ranking was meticulously developed using a combination of bibliometric data sources, most notably OpenAlex and CrossRef, alongside several additional trusted databases. This comprehensive data collection ensures a broad and reliable foundation for evaluation. The bibliometric data underpinning the citation-based metrics employed in this ranking was collected on 2024-11-27.
University positions in our ranking are established based on the cumulative D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all ranking scholars affiliated with each institution. The D-index is a measure that exclusively includes publications and citation data within a given discipline, ensuring precise discipline-specific impact assessment. However, scholars from all major research areas were considered to create an inclusive and representative ranking of institutional research excellence.
Scope of Research Evaluation
To ensure a thorough and inclusive approach, our analysis covered 279,971 scientist profiles identified from a variety of authoritative bibliometric data sources. These profiles span all major scientific disciplines, ensuring a comprehensive view of the research landscape. To be considered for the ranking, each scientist was required to meet a qualifying D-index threshold of 20. In addition to bibliometric data, scientists' awards and achievements in their respective fields were also factored into the assessment, further enhancing the multidimensional evaluation of research excellence.
Additional Verification Practices
Recognizing that bibliometric data, while invaluable, should not serve as the sole basis for evaluating scholarly output, the Research.com team adopted rigorous manual validation and cross-correlation procedures. Each scientist profile was subjected to manual verification and further checked against publications appearing in a wide range of reputable sources. While the number of papers published in leading journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence the Research.com ranking, it remains an important secondary signal of a scientist’s contribution to their field.
The ranking position for each researcher is established using H-index data sourced directly from OpenAlex and CrossRef, two of the most prominent and authoritative bibliometric databases available to the global research community.
