Data Sources and Methodology Overview
The 3rd edition of the Research.com Best Universities in Mexico Ranking draws upon a robust and multifaceted data foundation, utilizing primarily OpenAlex and CrossRef as core bibliometric data sources, supplemented by several other reliable datasets. The bibliometric data underpinning the citation-based metrics used in the ranking were meticulously gathered on 2024-11-27. Each institution's placement in the ranking is determined by the aggregated D-indexes (Discipline H-indexes) of all ranking scholars affiliated with that institution. The D-index exclusively reflects publications and citation data within a specific discipline, though the ranking process encompasses scientists from all major research areas to ensure comprehensive and fair representation.
Scope and Extent of Research
The scope of this ranking is both inclusive and rigorous. A total of 279,971 scientist profiles were examined, with profiles sourced from a variety of leading bibliometric data platforms covering all major scientific disciplines. In order to ensure high standards of scholarly excellence, only scientists with a D-index of at least 20 qualified to be considered in the evaluation process. In addition to bibliometric performance, researchers' notable awards and achievements within their respective fields of study were also taken into account during assessment.
Verification Practices and Quality Assurance
The Research.com team recognizes that raw bibliometric data should not be interpreted as an absolute measure of scholarly output. Consequently, every scientist's profile included in the analysis underwent manual verification, including cross-correlation of profiles against authoritative publications found in reputable sources. While the quantity of publications in prominent journals and conference proceedings was not a direct ranking factor, it is acknowledged as an important secondary indicator of a researcher's influence and contribution to their field.
Institutional ranking positions are ultimately determined using each researcher's H-index, as reported by OpenAlex and CrossRef—both considered the most prominent and widely recognized bibliometric databases of their kind available to the global research community.
