A university's position in the ranking is determined by the sum of the D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all ranking scholars affiliated with that institution. The D-index gauges performance by considering only publications and citations pertaining to a specific discipline. However, to ensure a representative and inclusive approach, scholars from all major research areas were considered in the compilation of the ranking.
Scope of Research
The analysis underlying the ranking covers a vast and diverse body of research: a total of 279,971 scientist profiles were examined, identified from a variety of bibliometric data sources. These profiles span all major scientific disciplines, ensuring a holistic and multidimensional perspective.
To qualify for consideration in the ranking, scientists had to meet a minimum D-index threshold of 20. In addition to citation-based metrics, each scientist’s awards and achievements within their field of study were evaluated as part of the selection process, further enhancing the rigor and depth of the analysis.
Verification and Validation Practices
We recognize that bibliometric data alone should not be the sole arbiter of a scholar’s impact. Thus, all scientist profiles were manually verified and cross-referenced against publications listed in a wide range of authoritative and trustworthy sources. This process ensures not only the academic integrity but also the reliability of the results.
Although it does not directly influence a researcher’s position in the Research.com ranking, the number of publications in top-tier journals and conference proceedings is nonetheless an important ancillary signal of scientific contribution and reputation within specific areas. The central determinant for ranking, however, remains the researcher’s H-index, as gathered from the highly respected bibliometric databases OpenAlex and CrossRef—tools widely regarded within the research community for their depth and accuracy.
