A university’s position in the ranking is determined based on the aggregated D-index (Discipline H-index) of all qualifying scholars affiliated with that institution. The D-index exclusively reflects publications and citation data relevant to a specific scientific discipline, ensuring discipline-specific excellence is recognized. Importantly, scientists from all major areas of research were considered, promoting a comprehensive and multidisciplinary perspective in the ranking process.
Scope of Research and Eligibility Criteria
The ranking is grounded in a meticulous evaluation of 279,971 scientist profiles identified from a broad array of bibliometric data sources. These profiles span all major scientific disciplines and reflect the breadth of the Swiss research landscape.
To ensure rigor and selectivity, only those scholars with a minimum D-index of 20 were included in the analysis. In addition to quantitative bibliometric indicators, each scientist’s awards and recognitions within their field of study were factored in, enabling a more holistic appraisal of research excellence and impact.
Verification and Validation Practices
Recognizing the inherent limitations of raw bibliometric data, the Research.com team has conducted a thorough manual verification of all scientist profiles. This process included cross-checking against publications distributed across a wide array of trustworthy sources to ensure data accuracy and fidelity.
While the number of papers published in leading journals and conference proceedings is not a direct factor in the Research.com ranking, it is acknowledged as a valuable secondary signal of a researcher’s contributions within their field. The position of institutions in this ranking is established using each researcher’s H-index, as determined by data from OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most prominent and well-established bibliometric databases utilized by the global research community.
