The bibliometric data underpinning the citation-based metrics used to form the ranking were systematically collected on January 12, 2026. A scientist’s position within the ranking is determined primarily by their H-index, a well-established metric reflecting both productivity and citation impact.
Scope of Research and Selection Process
A total of 279,971 scientist profiles identified from a diverse array of bibliometric repositories were examined, spanning all major scientific disciplines. To qualify for inclusion, scientists were required to meet discipline-specific H-index thresholds, typically set at either 30 or 40, depending on the research area’s citation norms. Additionally, accolades, awards, and notable achievements in their respective fields were incorporated as supplementary qualifying factors.
After rigorous evaluation, only the top 1,000 scientists with the highest H-index values were selected to be featured in this ranking, thereby highlighting those with the most significant early-career research impact.
Additional Verification Practices
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot fully capture the complexity and quality of scholarly output, the Research.com team conducted thorough manual verification of each scientist profile. This verification included cross-referencing publication records against a wide range of reputable data sources to safeguard the accuracy and reliability of the evaluation.
While the number of publications in prominent journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence a researcher’s position in the Research.com ranking, it serves as a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist’s contributions to their field.
The core ranking metric—the H-index—was derived from data aggregated primarily via OpenAlex and CrossRef, two of the most widely recognized and respected bibliometric platforms accessible to the research community.
