Data Sources and Ranking Methodology
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Female Scientists in Israel Ranking has been constructed primarily using data from OpenAlex and CrossRef, among multiple other reputable bibliometric sources. These platforms represent some of the most comprehensive and widely recognized databases for scholarly publications and citations. The bibliometric data used to devise the citation-based metrics for this ranking were collected on January 12, 2026. A scientist’s position within the ranking is determined based on their H-index, a widely accepted metric that measures both the productivity and citation impact of a researcher’s publications.
Scope of Research
The ranking reflects a broad and inclusive view of scientific output, covering 279,971 scientist profiles identified across a variety of bibliometric data sources and encompassing all major scientific disciplines. The qualifying criteria for inclusion, specifically the minimum H-index thresholds, were set uniquely for each research area to account for disciplinary differences; these thresholds were generally established at 30 or 40. In addition to citation metrics, a scientist’s awards and accomplishments within their respective fields were also taken into consideration to ensure recognition of excellence beyond purely bibliometric indicators. Ultimately, only the top 1,000 female scientists with the highest H-index values are included in the final ranking.
Verification and Additional Evaluation Practices
Recognizing the limitations of raw bibliometric data, the Research.com team conducted meticulous manual verification of all scientist profiles to ensure accuracy and authenticity. This process involved cross-referencing profiles against publications documented in a wide range of trustworthy and authoritative sources. Although the number of papers published in leading journals and conference proceedings is not directly used as a factor determining ranking position, it serves as a valuable secondary signal of a researcher’s substantive contribution to their specific scientific field.
