American InterContinental University is institutionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). Institutional accreditation evaluates the institution as a whole; it does not mean that every degree has a separate professional accreditation or automatically qualifies a graduate for licensure.
Accreditation matters for eligibility to participate in federal student-aid programs, subject to other federal requirements. It also matters in transfer and graduate admissions, but the receiving institution decides which credits it will accept. Students pursuing a licensed occupation should check the specific program's approval and their state licensing board's rules. They should also verify that the accreditation record and institution named in their enrollment documents apply to the degree they intend to earn.
AIU-Atlanta reports an open-admission policy for entering students, with high school completion or an equivalent credential such as a GED forming the basic academic starting point. Open admission does not eliminate identity, documentation, program, or financial-aid eligibility checks.
Applicants should expect to complete an institutional application and arrange for any education records needed to establish eligibility and place prior coursework. Before applying, ask whether the intended program requires additional documentation, an English-proficiency assessment, or a particular start date. An admissions decision and a financial-aid offer are separate decisions.
Applicants should confirm the current application charge, if any, in AIU-Atlanta's application or enrollment materials before submitting a form or payment. An application charge is distinct from tuition, required course fees, and any later enrollment payment.
If a charge applies, ask admissions whether a waiver is offered for your applicant category and whether it must be approved before submission. Get the amount and waiver terms in writing; a general tuition estimate does not answer either question.
Students should not assume that enrolling at AIU-Atlanta provides access to an on-campus Army, Air Force, or Navy ROTC unit. ROTC participation through another Atlanta-area institution would require a confirmed cross-enrollment arrangement, not simply proximity to a host campus.
Anyone considering that route should ask the prospective ROTC host unit whether AIU-Atlanta students are eligible, then confirm that AIU would accept the coursework and accommodate the schedule. ROTC scholarships have separate selection rules and can carry military service obligations.
AIU-Atlanta generally accepts transfer credit from accredited institutions and reports transfer entry opportunities in fall, winter, spring, and summer. Admission as a transfer student is not the same as approval of every previously earned credit.
Applicants should submit official college transcripts for an individual evaluation. The institution also reports accepting CLEP, DSST/DANTES, and American Council on Education credit recommendations, as well as considering credit for life experience. Those options still need to fit the degree's requirements and applicable credit limits. Request a written evaluation showing which credits satisfy major, general-education, and elective requirements - and how many AIU credits remain - before deciding what the transfer will save.
Students should not build an Atlanta degree plan around an assumed AIU-operated study-abroad semester or exchange. International study is useful only if the intended program approves the courses and their application toward graduation in advance.
A student considering a third-party overseas program should obtain written academic approval before committing to travel or paying a deposit. Financial-aid treatment, enrollment status, and transfer-credit rules may differ from those for ordinary AIU coursework.
