Data Sources and Methodology in the 3rd Edition of the Research.com Best Universities in Mauritius Ranking
The 3rd edition of the Research.com Best Universities in Mauritius Ranking is based on robust and comprehensive data collection from leading bibliometric databases, primarily OpenAlex and CrossRef in addition to multiple other reliable sources. The core citation-based metrics utilized for the ranking are grounded in bibliometric data collected as of 2024-11-27. An institution’s position in the ranking is determined by the aggregated D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all ranked scholars affiliated with that university. The D-index is constructed to include exclusively the publications and citation data pertaining to the examined discipline, while ensuring that scholars from all major research areas are considered in developing the final ranking.
Scope of Research Considered
To ensure comprehensive coverage across the academic spectrum, Research.com examined 279,971 scientist profiles sourced from various bibliometric databases, spanning all major scientific disciplines. For inclusion in the ranking process, a scientist was required to meet a qualifying D-index threshold set at 20. Beyond just quantitative metrics, the ranking also takes into account scientists' awards and achievements in their respective fields, ensuring that recognition is given to significant impacts beyond sheer publication and citation numbers.
Verification and Evaluation Practices
Recognizing that bibliometric data alone should not be regarded as the sole measure of scholarly achievement, the ranking process incorporated rigorous manual verification of all scientist profiles. Each profile was cross-validated with publications indexed in a diverse array of trustworthy and authoritative sources. While the number of papers published in prestigious journals and conference proceedings is not a formal factor in the Research.com ranking, we acknowledge that such outputs offer a valuable secondary indication of a scientist’s contribution to the advancement of their field.
The final ranking position of each researcher is established via their H-index, as documented by OpenAlex and CrossRef — databases recognized as the most prominent and reliable bibliometric resources available to the global research community. Institutions and academics seeking deeper insight into the methodology underpinning this ranking are encouraged to consult our methodology page for full transparency regarding data gathering and evaluation protocols.
